Cannes Film Festival

The red carpet at this year's Cannes Film Festival is finally rolled up as US director Terrence Malick makes off with the 2011 Palme d'Or for the Tree of Life. We party-hopped to find that the auto, jewellery and luxury drinks sectors stayed at the forefront of event sponsorship and placement. (23 May 11)

New York dolls

Monday night saw the fashion runway firmly framed at the annual Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.  Here the 2011 “Met Ball” paid homage to the design talent of the late Alexander McQueen,  hosting the opening of the exhibition “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty”.Bethany Hutton-Stigga surveyed the glamorous procession streaming up the steps of the Met Museum in tribute to McQueen. Tom's Kitchen launches at Somerset House

Tom's Kitchen at London's Somerset House is the sequel opening to the Chelsea restaurant of Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens. Sat Bal sampled tradition with a twist at the official opening of the new Compass Group-backed venture following its soft launch this July. (15 Sep 10)

PRS reviews live music fees

Innovative promoters and event organisers have been instrumental in pushing the revenue boom of the live music sector. Chairman of the Performing Right Society/PRS for Music Ellis Rich applauded this success, stating "British music has thrived and remains popular across the globe."
