GENEVA The Naked Heart Foundation attracted names and cash at The Secret Garden charity gala in the splendour of Coppet Castle.

Hosted by the non-profit charity’s founder, Natalia Vodianova with trustees Frederik Paulsen and Olga Litviniuk, guests included DJ Cassidy, Elsa Hosk, Petra Nemcova, Caroline Scheufele, Xenia Adonts and Alberta Ferretti among many others.

At the event on 13 June guests enjoyed Dom Pérignon cocktails with dinner by Michelin-star chefs, Philippe Chevrier and Domaine Châteauvieux.

Model and philanthropist Petra Nemcova presented the entertainment with performances by eight-year-old piano prodigy Elisey Mysin and the world-famous Menuhin Academy Orchestra.

Rita Ora was on form and primed guests for a set by DJ Cassidy after her performance.

A live and silent auction kept up the excitement, offering unique lots such as a meet-and-greet Elton John and exclusive shoes created in collaboration between René Caovilla and Chopard.

The black-tie gala was sponsored by Ferring Pharmaceuticals and Chopard and raised over a million CHF for children with autism and to create play facilities for affected families.

Event production was by Britta Carpigo at Mosaic Events.

Natalia Vodianova had the final word on a successful and memorable night:

“The Secret Garden is a place that makes us remember the importance and invaluable effect of family - the perfect metaphor for Naked Heart Foundation where professional family support services are at the centre of everything we do. A strong, supportive and inclusive family life is essential for child development and providing the fertile ground in which a child can flourish, and it’s especially important for those with mental, physical or sensory disabilities. I’m delighted that the gala tonight raised much-needed funds for this crucial work, also bringing awareness of special needs and the importance of professional support for these children”

LONDON New exhibition ‘Sessions in Sound: Photographs by Norman Seeff’ is set to unveil at London’s Proud Galleries this month. As these depictions show, Seeff intimately captured the spontaneity of his subjects with alluring engagement whether it be a pensive Mick Jagger or a leisurely Johnny Cash (above).  Norman Seeff moved to New York aged 29 to pursue his passion, after training as a doctor in his native South Africa. Renowned album cover designer, Bob Cato, gave him his first major assignment – to photograph Robbie Robinson and The Band for the liner notes of their album ‘Stage Fright’.

Despite an inauspicious start - Seeff got lost on his way to Woodstock and arrived  hours late - Cato’s work was used on the band’s album cover. Seeff had arrived.

In 1973, Seeff opened his own studio on Sunset Boulevard and saw him work with a whole spectrum of musicians.

In 1985, Seeff photographed musician Ray Charles and later recalled how “Ray was testy at the start of the session. Ultimately, he loved the process and ended up calling me ‘brother’. It was a seminal session.”

The exhibition also features a selection of unseen photographs, including a portrait of Patti Smith from Seeff’s 1969 acclaimed photoshoot with Patti and Robert Mapplethorpe. This session has arguably become one of Seeff’s most famous and he cited Patti Smith: “After Robert’s death, Patti told me these shots come closest to her remembrance of the profundity of the love between them.”

On his creative ethos Seeff says he constantly seeks “a place with my subjects that defines pure presence, where we can stand and just look at each other without any filters.”

MTV EMAs - Bilbao

0

SPAIN Hardly seems a year has flown by since the 2017 EMAs when we were cheering U2 on in the cold of London's Trafalgar Square. Yesterday, it was Spain's turn as Bilbao hosted the show with Nicki Minaj and Little Mix to the fore.

They opened with their collaboration “Woman Like Me” and before being joined onstage, Minaj shook the house with her new song “Good Form.”

Global Icon Award honoree Janet Jackson unleashed a blazing performance of hits over her legendary 40-year career.  Four decades spanned four stages four stages which included African drummers, flame torches, fire breathers, more than 20 dancers and an elevated stage surrounded by flames.  A fitting delivery for both artist and the MTV production teams who laboured behind the scenes to make it happen.

Throughout the star-studded global music celebration, Camila Cabello (headline pic) took home four EMA awards including “Best Artist.”

Other highlights include Hailee Steinfeld officially kicking off the show with an EMA award art heist, followed by Panic! At The Disco’s Brendon Urie scaling Bilbao Exhibition Centre’s exterior before crashing through the ceiling to perform “High Hopes.”

Modern Flamenco-inspired sensation and Spain native Rosalía, one of the most buzzed-about acts of the night, rolled on stage in a gigantic truck before rocking the entire house with “Malamente” alongside 24 dancers.

Throughout the night, Steinfeld commanded the stage with her captivating hosting skills, and for her performance, she gave a nod to her upcoming film Bumblebee by performing soundtrack number “Back to Life” from inside a yellow human vehicle, artistically created with more than 20 bodies.

Five-time “MTV EMA” award-winning  Muse performed “Pressure” from Bilbao’s famed San Mamés Stadium.

Superstar Bebe Rexha delivered a huge show highlight with a mesmerizing performance of “I’m a Mess” while in a bathtub surrounded by nurses and 100 dancers.

Halsey brought the rain to the arena with an intimate solo performance of “Without Me” surrounded by rainfall.

Jason Derulo sang an operatic rendition of Andrea Bocelli’s “Time to Say Goodbye” before flowing into his collaboration track “Goodbye” with David Guetta and Nicki Minaj, both of whom joined him on stage.

Alessia Cara gave a colorful performance for “Trust Me Lonely” against a backdrop of different settings.

Jack & Jack soared overhead with a thrilling aerial routine for “Rise” before crash landing onto a living room couch, joined on center stage by more than 100 fans.

To close out the show, Marshmello kept the energy booming alongside Anne-Marie for their platinum-certified track “FRIENDS,” followed by Bastille for “Happier.” Five giant inflatable Marshmello heads and hundreds of smaller Marshmello balls took over the venue as the grand finale.

This year’s show also awarded the first-ever “MTV EMA Generation Change Award” to elevate and empower the fearless, original young people who are changing the world.  MTV awarded five changemakers from around the globe, all under the age of 26, during the red carpet pre-show.  The winners are among a generation of young people who are tackling the world’s toughest problems – including fighting for environmental protection, refugee rights, ending child marriage, mental health support and LGBTQ+ equality -- through music, storytelling and digital media.

Additionally, MTV recognized artists from around the globe with Worldwide Act awards and Best Local Act awards for multiple regions including Germany, Spain, Japan and Africa. Worldwide Act recognizes those artists who have evolved their footprint and established their names beyond their local borders in 2018.  They are selected from all the regional EMA award nominees by an international panel of MTV music executives.
