La Grande Dame of Design Competitions
Veuve Clicquot’s ‘The Re‐Creation Awards’ competition makes its debut today with a global invitation to design buffs. Entrants are invited to create a limited edition of the Veuve Clicquot Mailbox. The prize? €10,000 prize money… and more. Hannah Charlesworth (1 Oct’14)
The winning design will also become next year’s limited edition Mailbox and gain coveted exposure at Milan Design Week. In addition it’ll be featured in Wallpaper magazine.
As befits a contest that’s hosted by 10 countries, the judging panel is international and includes noted designer Tom Dixon OBE for the UK panel. He will be joined by Professor Nicholas Rhodes from Central St Martins.
Two finalists from each country will be flown to the Hôtel du Marc, Veuve Clicquot’s hotel in Reims, France, for the final. This will be judged by a panel including designers Pablo Reinoso and Ferrucio Laviani.
The inspiration for the vintage American mailbox style comes from champagne founder Madame Clicquot’s archive letters to her clients and suppliers. Her brand has endured for over 240 years and ranges from the everyday classic Yellow Label to the finest in the House: La Grande Dame.
The label also celebrates entrepreneurial creativity through various initiatives including the annual Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award.
The race to create the most imaginative design for next year’s Clicquot Mailbox starts now and the deadline is November 15.
