MTV EMA AMSTERDAM Review
The MTV EMA blasted off in Amsterdam last night. Sat Bal was on the red carpet for Red Carpet interviewing arrivals and watching the show at Amsterdam’s vast Ziggo Dome. Lots more content to follow but here’s a round-up of the night (11 Nov'13) …
This was the 20th MTV awards show from the network owned by Viacom and it seemed to be reaching out to a younger audience this year. The tension rose as the ‘best female’ award pitted Katy Perry (pictured above), Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus against each other. Katy Perry won - despite Miley’s intense promo of late, notably her infamous ‘twerking’ at the MTV VMAs earlier this year and her eyebrow-raising wardrobe.
It could have been a ‘joint’ win for Miley Cyrus who exploited Amsterdam’s liberal drugs attitude by drawing on an apparently potent roll-up on stage. She did win the ‘best video’ award for Wrecking Ball and did her best to exorcise her Hannah Montana past with a provocative line in outfits and behaviour - including the fondling a latex-clad dwarf girl!

Eminem took things into a more credible direction and was anointed with a ‘Global Icon’ prize for lifetime achievement and the ‘best hip-hop’ prize.

Matters took a serious turn when Jared Leto (Thirty Seconds to Mars) appealed for a minute’s silence re the plight of typhoon Haiyan victims in the Philippines - with mixed results from the packed audience.
'A friend with weed is better..' Miley goes understated at prize collection with THAT ciggie - or was it a placebo, ho ho.
Back to the kiddie pop frivolity and huge Brit by band One Direction got ‘best pop’ and Harry Styles also bagged ‘best style’ award. Justin Bieber retained ‘best male’ and ‘best worldwide’ went to China’s Chris Lee.
‘Best live act’ went to Beyonce and ‘best song’ to Bruno Mars.
