Red Carpet at Isle of MTV

The Isle of MTV Malta Special took place last week in the capital Valletta drawing over 50,000 revellers. We flew to Malta for the music festival’s sixth consecutive year and below is a taster of what we found. Full article with behind the scenes interviews to follow.   Sat Bal (2 Jul 12)

The show is one of the biggest free outdoor music events to take place in Europe this year and revellers basked in temperatures into the 30s. The Isle of MTV Malta Special 2012 was headlined by global superstars will.i.am, Nelly Furtado and Flo Rida, along with support from breakthrough dance artist Eva Simons.

The site at Il-Fosos Square was transformed into an open-air music venue for more than 50,000 fans. Countless MOJO barriers, security fences, five generators and hundreds of chemical toilets populated the site.  The production had 10 truckloads of steel, lights, sound equipment and set materials will make their way to Malta by ferry.

Trucks were packed full of Proled LED screens, Nexos lights, DJ equipment and no less than 5 kilometres of electrical cables, ready to set the 250 square metre stage alight. A total of 15 cameras  shot the event for MTV, including 10 HD cameras and 3 on tracks.  A mini backstage village of caravans, cabins and hospitality tents and hundreds of local technical and Khiron security personnel went into position for the biggest night on Malta’s music calendar.

Flo Rida “…happy to be coming back to Malta.”

“We are really excited to be coming back to Malta for another Isle of MTV extravaganza! The show has the best atmosphere of any large MTV event. With the help of everyone from local suppliers to the international crew, and of course the amazing Maltese crowd, Il-Fosos square is literally turned into one big party! We are hoping for a big ‘wow’ factor with one of the strongest line ups yet of international talent to add to the already impressive list of worldwide artists who have played at Isle of MTV over the years,” said Jane Fraser, VP, International Productions VIMN South Europe, Middle East & Africa and the show’s executive producer.
