Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club Autumn Regatta dinner

Upon arrival in Hong Kong we were invited to dinner by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC). And not just any dinner. No, this was an exclusive pre-event dinner at the venerable Club, steeped in a 160-year nautical pedigree. The dinner marked the launch of RHKYC’s Autumn Regatta over the weekend of September 8 & 9 and was celebrated in style. Sat Bal (Sep ’13)

As dining backdrops go Victoria Harbour is close to a perfect setting as it twinkles away in the background. The foreground is equally perfect as Laurent Perrier twinkles on the dinner tables reminding us of the champagne brand’s supporting status tonight. Behind the event are our hosts Canaletto, a London-based luxury residence developer (‘Official Luxury Property Development Partner’) and SHK Private (‘Official Private Wealth Management Partner’).

Partners: Okay, we didn’t sponsor the event but the other two did!

The vintage Autumn Regatta also attracted sponsor sparkle from McLaren (‘Official Luxury Automobile’) whose new MP4-12C model was exhibited on arrival at the Club and up for test drive during the event. Small Luxury Hotels of the World also joined theevent partnership fray

Juliana Fong (SHK’s VP Marketing & Client Relationship) headed our table and the flow of her welcome speech soon gave way to the flow of more champagne - and what tasted like the most succulent lamb shank this side of Asia Pacific.

SHK kept busy, also hosting a cocktail party a few days later prior to the ‘Official Prize Presentation’ celebrations. Juliana Fong led the grand prize-giving ceremony which marked the end of the Regatta and the party atmosphere belied the obstructive ‘boat protests’ that had taken place. With the RHKYC Pipe Band bringing Scottish cheer and plenty of sponsored refreshment the winners were applauded with gusto.
