The Halkin celebrates its 20th

In 1991 The Halkin opened its doors to the claim of London’s first boutique design hotel providing a stylish alternative to bland corporate chains. Twenty years on the hotel is inviting guests to share its ethos and anniversary celebrations with a range of events set to take place throughout September.Abigail Parkin (7 Sept ‘11)

The Halkin’s notions of prestige converge with the philosophy of luxury publisher Assoulinein the shape of an immersive pop-up ‘Culture Lounge’. The Paris/New York-based publisher’s Lounge takes over the hotel bar to create an exhibition of Assouline’s most iconic coffee-table books. Guests and non-residents will be able to browse this bespoke library of new and limited editions and see recent titles brought to life through a series of literary events with selected authors.

“We are a publishing house obsessive about luxury. This is our first London pop-up Culture Lounge and it is significant that we have chosen to work with a hotel that helped set a benchmark of luxury for the capital.” Prosper Assouline, the company’s founder.

September also sees The Halkin unveil its new 20th anniversary suites at the hotel, renovated to customary high standards and now including large spacious balconies overlooking the hotel gardens. Guests will also be offered the chance to take advantage of one of the 20th anniversary packages ‘Families’, ‘Shoppers’ and ‘Gastronomes’.

- The family package includes chocolate painting, dipping or chocolate bar making at Rococo Chocolates or a four-course dessert bar meal at the new William Curly Bar on Ebury Street.

- The gastronomy package includes dinner at nahm, The Halkin’s award-winning Thai restaurant, and a delectable experience at Pierre Hermé Paris Macarons and Chocolate Boutique in Belgravia.

- For shoppers, there is a bespoke perfume consultation with Les Senteurs, a ‘His & Hers’ experience including private appointments at De Vroomen jewellers and TomTom Cigars, and a ‘Belgravia Sybarite’ three-hour private shopping tour.
