Necker Island Now Booking

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS Always wanted to go to Necker Island but without having to book the entire island? Well now you can, says Lucy Kale

Up until now, Sir Richard Branson’s home and private hideaway in the British Virgin Islands has mostly been available on the basis of exclusive use of the island. But its sought after ‘Celebration Weeks’ dates allows guests to book individual rooms on the island in hotel- style during selected weeks of the year.

The first available Celebration Week for 2020 is from the 3rd – 9th January for a 6-night stay. Or you can head off to Necker Island during later 2020 ‘Celebration Weeks’ dates  in September and October:

19th – 25th September 2020 (7-night stay – adults only)

26th September – 3rd October 2020 (7-night stay – adults only)

17th – 23rd October 2020 (7-night stay – family weeks)

24th – 30th October 2020 (7-night stay – family weeks)

For the first time, next year will also see the island become available for small group bookings.  From June 2020, small groups of between 8-15 will be able to book the island on a shared non-exclusive basis with rates starting from US $5,000, (£3,872 at today’s exchange rate) per room, per night.

Guests visiting in 2020 will be among the first to see the fully completed Necker Island, following more than two years of reconstruction after Hurricane Irma.  The newly renovated Bali Hi complex has been beautifully restored to its former glory with the addition of private plunge pools and will be open from April 2020.

Guests will be able to experience Necker Island better than ever before, while experiencing all the luxuries that come with staying on one of the most exclusive and idyllic islands in the world.

Rates per couple during a ‘Celebration Week’ start from US $5,000 (£3,872 at today’s current exchange rate), per room per night.

The ‘bunkroom’ in the Great House that sleeps up to six children, additional rates from US $3,500 (£2,700 at today’s current exchange rate) per night.

Necker Island’s 74-acre estate rests in turquoise waters surrounded by coral reefs and fringed with beautiful white sandy beaches.

Take it all in, from private tennis lesons with a resident professional coach and top-class water sports, to simply relaxing on the beach or enjoying the tranquillity of the island.

Kayls Debuts Single

LOS ANGELES ‘Drive Away’ is the debut single released today by Indie pop artist Kayls. And it’s here, below, for the delectation of our UK/Euro listeners.

Think shimmering pool lights, post-midnight trips in Ferraris across the Pacific Coast Highway , heartbreak and muffins. The track, produced by Bambor Leany, trips with pop melodies and hallucinogenic rogue beats.

“I want songs to be fun and rebellious like stealing a neon orange Lambo on a Sunday afternoon to go eat strawberry ice cream in a lime silk gown,’ said the LA-based artist. ‘I think there’s a huge void in songs right now and I want to fill it with magic mushrooms, candied violet perfume and 808s.”

We’d go along with that!

Bambor Leany, one of the few female pop producers in the industry, threw in the creative aggression and escapism to take her paradigm into a supra-structure of song that shakes off the current.

Expect more from Kayls with an EP planned for release in 2020.

Kayls’ creative splurge sees her design all of her promo-wardrobe, including that in the song’s forthcoming video.”  She co-designed her gold and ruby mushroom jewellery with Vogue-featured Jonne Amaya.

Hell, her grandfather even performed with Sonny & Cher and opened for Dolly Parton!

So, take a listen here …

MTV AWARDS EMA IN SEVILLE

SEVILLE After flying to so many European cities for the MTV EMAs it was good to be in Seville for last night’s show. It was opened by omnipresent superstar Dua Lipa who led the way for a roll call of female award winners. Sat Bal

We watched as a huge yellow wall of dancers accompanied Dua Lipa in her debut global stage performance of “Don’t Start Now” at the show venue - the FIBES Conference & Exhibition Centre

Global Icons Green Day earlier played to thousands of hardcore fans in the legendary Plaza de España on Saturday night with an epic performance of their new single “Father of All” and punk classic “Basket Case.”

Dua Lipa opens the show

“Best New” and “Best Push” nominee Mabel singing “Don’t Call Me Up.” The daughter of Neneh Cherry performed from atop a huge purple phone, complete with a solo dance break, lasers and violet lighting.

Surrounded by a cascade of lights, Niall Horan performed a dynamic version of “Nice to Meet Ya.”

MTV EMA Host Becky G teamed up with Akon for the first global performance of their  smash “Como No.” The duo rolled down the runway-like stage on gliding carnival floats.

Halsey's horseplay at EMA

Show host Becky G performed a medley of her hits surrounded by flames including “24/7,” “Sin Pijama” and “Mayores” on the stage, illuminated by glistening lasers and UV lighting.

Ariana Grande and Lil Nas X came away empty-handed, despite a clutch of  nominations.

Halsey lit up the EMA stage in her own “Halsey World” setting for an intimate version of “Graveyard,” setting fire to her carousel horse.

The singing sensation doubled as a fashion siren, sporting five looks over her successful night. Her fourth look, below, comprised a striking Zimmerman cropped shirt in artsy collage mash print and matching maxi skirt with side split. Metallic silver stilettos completed the ensemble.

Halsey might have exhibited confidence in wardrobe but was stunned to win Best Pop at the MTV EMAs over pop superstars such as Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes.

She told us on collecting the gong: 'I don't know where to stand. I didn't think I was going to get this. I feel so lucky to be making pop music at a time where pop music is so special. There are so many different genres all blending together."

Local hero and global sensation Rosalía, accompanied by 52 dancers against a pyramid of red chairs, gave a powerful flamenco/hip-hop hybrid dance number to “Di Mi Nombre.”

Liam G gets Rock Icon

NCT 127, the first K-Pop group to perform on the global MTV stage, delivered an electrifying performance of their hit “Highway to Heaven.”

The first-ever MTV EMA Rock Icon winner Liam Gallagher closed the show with a breathtaking performance of his new single “Once” and anthemic hit “Wonderwall” complete with string instruments and a band.

His award acceptance comment was "to recognise MTV for recognising my brilliance."

Backed by an all-female orchestra, pop phenomenon Ava Max delivered a unique rendition of her global hits “Torn” leading into “Sweet but Psycho” that ran the length of the EMAs’ runway-style stage.
