Back to the future on the Amalfi coast

The luxurious NH Grand Hotel Convento diAmalfi is making a “monumental” offer to its guests. Built in the 17th century Cappuccini Convent monument in Amalfi, the hotel is offering guests a stay from £190 per person per night*. Abigail Parkin (28 Feb ’13)

The five-star resort package is billed as a four-night stay for two people in one of just 53 rooms with a picturesque vista of the Amalfi Coast.

Also on the menu is its “AntiOx” buffet breakfast and two traditional Mediterranean dishes in the elegant Dei Cappuccini restaurant. Further hospitality comes in the form of two 50-minute massages in the hotel's well-being centre.

The Cappuccini Convent’s ancient heritage blends the flight of steps, natural cave, the cloister and the monks’ walk into an inspiring past; present today. The complex is surrounded by lemon trees and lush gardens nourished by a water channel running through the grounds.

New for this season is the Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi’s lounge bar near the outdoor infinity pool. Here the pool’s water merges with the horizon, diving dramatically into the blue waters of the Mediterranean far below. The new bar creates a magical retreat where guests have the chance to sip a cocktail before or a liqueur after dinner in a unique and elegant setting with sensational views over the Amalfi Coast.

The hotel’s setting into the cliff 80 metres above sea level adds to the drama as does detail such as an Arab-Norman cloister and “loggia” or outdoor corridor with pillars.

For those who like their contemporary, steeped in history…

*Based on exchange rate February 20. Euro cost is set at 435 per night for two people sharing a double room with sea view.
