Club and hotel king Ian Schrager is back in town for his hotel launch tomorrow and British artist Mat Collishaw marks the event with the creation of a 3D diamond exhibited in the lobby’s glass vestibule. Abigail Parkin (11 Sep ’13)

Ian Schrager revealed a creative partnership with online art boutique s[edition] last week to celebrate the launch of The London Edition hotel. The Edition brand is his collaboration with global corporate Marriott International, a partnership which raised eyebrows in the industry but which Schrager has likened to the Pixar and Disney team-up.

Mat Collishaw’s work, Prosopopoeia (headline pic), has been on show at the Edition hotel in Berners Street (formerly the Berners hotel) for the past week. “Generally I make artworks for myself and the people who see them,” said the Young British Artist associate. “I've given a voice to the hotel.’

Edition has mailed out the art as an exclusive gift to friends of the international brand, celebrating Schrager’s imminent return to London after 15 years. The London Edition is the latest opening of the Edition brand and aims to combine Schrager’s love of personal, intimate individuality with the global reach and operational scale of Marriott.

His work with Mat Collishaw characterises the luxury, bespoke style of Edition hotels and art is a focal point. S[edition] sells art as digital limited editions for viewing on connected TV screens, iPads and digital screens. It already offers works by Damien Hirst, Shepard Fairey, Tracey Emin, Yoko Ono and  Elmgreen & Dragset among others.

This creative vision saw the online platform commission Tracey Emin’s Times Square Midnight Moment when her ‘I Promise to Love You’ was projected onto all main screens in the Square in the three minutes leading up to midnight.
