Inner Sanctum

Dating clubs often evoke images of tacky pick-up joints with an uneven  ratio of men and women, featuring liberal levels of alcohol. London’s The Inner Circle aims to change all of that with the launch of  its dedicated singles bar. Hannah Charlesworth  (1 Apr’15)

The new members’ club in Soho offers a hide-and-seek environment of  a maze of hidden rooms, all kaleidoscopically coloured and even the chance to send love letters by telegram. Live music, performances and games aim to put guests in the mind of visitors to an eccentric English house party in the upstairs area of  London’s oldest French restaurant.

The Inner Circle is a high-end dating website and network, created exclusively for single professionals  and  since launching in Amsterdam in 2012, it has taken  root  in London, Paris, Milan, Barcelona, Stockholm and Amsterdam. Its strict invite-only policy promises thorough screening upon registration, to ensure eligible singles with similar lifestyles and mutual friends can meet each other in a secure, friendly community.

The new owners of the restaurant are restaurateurs Laurence Isaacson, co-founder of Groupe Chez Gerard, and Brian Clivaz, who recently oversaw the successful refurbishment and relaunch of Mayfairs Arts Club.

Housed in a 280 year old townhouse, Upstairs is a welcome addition to the London members club scene. The downstairs L’Escargot restaurant was the favourite 1930s rendezvous of the French émigré community, socialites, and stars of the local theatres.
