MTV Crashes Manchester was a free, ticketed live music event created in collaboration with Manchester City Council and filmed for MTV World Stage which broadcasts to relevant global audiences through MTV’s extensive network.

The event started with a cocktail party in the smart surrounds of Harvey Nichols’ restaurant and then it was off to the nearby Manchester Cathedral for MTV Crashes Manchester. Mercury Prize nominee Lianne La Havas supported Keys and was evidently bowled over by the venue and the star. “'The atmosphere was electric and to share a stage with Alicia Keys...wow,” said La Havas.

MTV’s Laura Whitmore welcomed Keys onto the stage and the singer’s voice soon commanded the ears of the intimate audience. The sharp bobbed New Yorker vivified with hits like Empire State of Mind banishing any thoughts of the driving Manchester rain.

Manchester football players, Robin Van Persie, Micah Richards, David Silva, Jaxi Garcia and Joe Hart mingled with the likes of Everything Everything, The Courteeners and The Wanted’s Max George.

"It was great, I loved it,” said Alicia Keys. “I’ve been feeling so interestingly different performing these songs. Today I felt so calm, and paced, and right in the zone with the crowd. I loved this show, and what a beautiful venue."

MTV Crashes Manchester continued an MTV tradition of partnering with tourism and councils as most recently demonstrated by the Isle of MTV Malta Special.
