MTV Presents Titanic Sounds – Belfast

Red Carpet is back from a weekend in Belfast with MTV UK where we joined the “MTV Presents Titanic Soundsfree, live pop festival. The event helped mark the opening of the newly revealed Titanic Belfast attraction and thousands of revellers turned out to make the show a success.  Sat Bal (14 Apr 12)

Artists Pixie Lott, Katy B, Olly Murs, Sean Paul and Rizzle Kicks had the crowd whooping until the sun set over Titanic Belfast. MTV returned to Belfast with its MTV Presents Titanic Sounds pop festival following the success of last November’s EMAs.  The festival was especially designed for Belfast music fans who missed out on the EMAs and MTV supplied the event talent in this collaboration with Belfast City Council and Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB). And attend they did – all 16,000 of them!

The opening of the Titanic Belfast attraction heightened excitement in Belfast as did Pixie Lott – dressed to stun in Dolce & Gabbana. She opened the show with a high energy, performance of Boys and Girls followed by  chart smash Mama Do from her debut album Turn It Up.  “I’m really excited to be going back to Belfast… you guys know how to have a good time!” she said.

UK duo Rizzle Kicks got hot applause with crowd pleasers Mama do the Hump, Youngster and Trumpets before returning to the stage later in the night.  Then global dancehall star Sean Paul – who had  arrived in town on his own private jet -  performed the hits including Get Busy, Got to Luv U and Gimme Di Light.

As the sun set, the Titanic Belfast building was transformed into a kaleidoscope of colour by an impressive light show. Katy B had her own Lights On and new single Anywhere in the World – her collaboration with Mark Ronson.

The crowd partied on with UK singer/songwriter Olly Murs performing Dance With Me Tonight and Please Don’t Let Me Go, before being joined on stage with good friends Rizzle Kicks to bring the show to a close with chart anthem Heart Skips a Beat.

Head of communications for Belfast City Council, Eamon Deeny said of the event: “The MTV event was a great climax to our festival celebrating the opening of the world’s largest Titanic-themed tourist attraction. The new building providing a stunning backdrop to the brilliant performers MTV provided. We have worked with MTV on two major events during the past five months and have developed an excellent relationship, which has given us the opportunity to showcase Belfast across Europe as one of the most exciting, vibrant must-see cities in the world.”

The close of the show saw 16,000 revellers leave the site efficiently and in trouble-free manner. We headed off to the MTV party bus which transported us to the afterparty at El Divino club where Red Carpet partied until the early hours with Rizzle Kicks, Pixie Lott and other very up-for-it attendees.
