November check-in for Taj Palace Marrakech

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces continues its global expansion with the imminent launch of Taj Palace Marrakech. Part of India’s Tata Group, the Taj operation already comprises 93 hotels in 53 locations across India.  Abigail Parkin (14 Oct 11)

The launch follows last year’s foray into South Africa with the opening of the Taj Cape Town. The move into North Africa required a management contract with JK Hotels, a private Moroccan company with the Taj group now managing Taj Palace Marrakech.

The new venue offers 161 guestrooms, including 25 suites and one Royal Suite. The palace hotel offers guests new levels of luxury and panoramic views of the Atlas mountains and palm gardens of the verdant Palmeraie district.

American artist and ‘Orientalist’ designer Stuart Church will turn his eye to the interiors and architecture. The hotel promises inspiration from the noble Berber Kasbahs of Morocco, the opulence of Ottoman architecture, the richness of Indian pageantry and exotic Thai.

Taj Palace will feature several elegantly designed restaurants and bars serving a range of cuisine from Moroccan specialties to the finest flavours from The Mediterranean and Asia. The hotel will also house an extensive Jiva Grande Spa offering a range of treatments, including Ayurveda, spread across 3,800 square metres.  It includes 14 treatment rooms, two large hammams and a state-of-the-art fitness centre with ‘Technogym’ equipment.

Raymond N. Bickson, MD and chief executive officer of The Indian Hotels Company Limited, said: “Taj Palace Marrakech is our latest venture into the African continent with the Taj Palace, Marrakesh, in sync with our strategy to continue our vision of growth in key international destinations. The hotel will fit perfectly in our portfolio with its meticulously crafted and vivid blend of Moroccan, Indian and Asian themes. Marrakech is rich in culture and tradition and is increasingly becoming a most desired leisure destination.”

Mr. Jaouad Kadiri, owner of JK Hotels, said, “Taj Hotels’ is legendary and we are delighted with this association. Under the Taj management, our guests will experience the most exacting standards of world class hospitality. We look forward to a mutually rewarding relationship.”

Taj Palace is 30 minutes from Marrakech Menara International Airport. Airlines include British Airways and easyJet.
